Built up vibrant acrylic layers, transfers, collage and pastel then excavated into. I have always had a deep affinity with the natural world and draw inspiration from the textures, colour, patterns and atmosphere experienced.
Exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby Jurassic coast, I collect interesting objects which I keep in my studio for inspiration and mark-making including fossils, dried seed-heads, pebbles, decaying flowers and leaf skeletons.
I see a torso, whilst my hubby sees a tranquil sea view with cliffs. There is a definite influence from the book ‘The Body Keeps the Score: Mind, Brain and Body in the Transformation of Trauma’ by Bessel van der Kolk. We’ve probably all faced challenges in the last year or in our lifetime. I am curious about how the body and mind holds stress and the ways we cope, recoup and build resilience during challenging times. I often have to remind myself to rest and nourish my heart and soul.
My art practise has become more process driven and a sort of personal therapy where fragments of nature and everyday life that have been soaked up are reworked through the creative process. Like pieces of an unconcious puzzle that eminate from deep inside me become resolved in the artwork. Colour, texture and composition the visual words of something intangible.
