Soft pastel painting of an autumn landscape with trees and a river cascading down big moss green rocks.
Portland Bill Lighthouse by Ian Hedley. A4, pencil on Bristol board.
Short Description: Original Watercolour (unframed)
Approx 38.5 x 53 cm.
A soft pastel painting of old books arranged on five rows of bookshelves, each row filling an aperture in a long narrow frame. It is an unusual still life, both in format as in subject, and I have tried to bring as much colour and shape variation as possible into something which could easily look monotonous.

Jan Underdown Foxes are beautiful animals to paint. The range of reds, oranges and browns. Full of character and cunning. This Fox is painted in acrylic on an abstract acrylic flow background, using a range of browns, golds, yellows and greens to depict an autumn forest. Painted on canvas, unframed, size 20 x 16″
JAN UNDERDOWN My husband is from Brora on the NE coast of Scotland where you can see otters on a regular basis in the River Brora. Beautiful lithe animals, cheeky little faces. The background to this painting has been applied using an abstract acrylic flow technique. Colours used are a range of blues, whites and…
Jan Underdown Swans are lovely in any season and we are fortunate to live in Dorset where we have several rivers and lakes. This painting is a river bank scene on a summer’s day. This painting was one of my first using an abstract acrylic flow technique for the background, using a palette knife to…
Jan Underdown Just love Geese, especially painting them in flight. The background is a winter sky, painted using an abstract acrylic flow technique, using colours pale lilac, pink, blue, white and silver to provide the atmosphere. The picture was inspired by one used in a magazine featuring wintering birds on the East coast of the…
Jan Underdown This painting was inspired by an image on Pinterest. The background was painted using an abstract acrylic flow technique to provide the atmosphere of a moonlit forest, in a range of blues, white and silver. Loved the effect of the owl flying in and the other at rest. Barn Owls are one of…
Jan Underdown The Golden Eagle. The UK’s largest bird, absolutely magnificent. My husband is from Brora, Sutherland on the NE coast of Scotland. You will see these birds flying on high, soaring on the thermals generate by the highlands. This eagle has been painted in acrylic, using an abstract acrylic flow technique for the background. …
