This painting reminds me of the contained chaos we have to hold at times and of what really goes on under the calm surface. Created during the pandemic with built up layers on panel – shapes, colours and textures inspired by the exquisite surrounding landscape here in Devon, UK. I love the raw, expressionistic feel of this piece. Part of an ongoing series looking at ways we cope with stress and trauma and how it manifests in our mind and body.

Kho-Khi as it is pronounced is the second letter in the Thai alphabet and it means egg hence my title to this painting
The painting actually has lots of symbols and references to the temple culture of Thailand with the lotus leaf motive at the bottom and other Thai characters within. I also see the centre yellow as the gateway to something, yes this painting is abstract but it is a lot more than this when you start to look.
