I tapped into my love for the unique textures that occur in nature, on weathered walls, old billboards and rusting metal – the scars of time, symbolising memories and keepsakes.
Exploring the process of adding and subtracting until a balance is found. Using various methods of layering and piecing together fragments through mixed media and then scraping, sanding and peeling off – metaphorically delving deeper to discover what lies beneath and our hidden strengths.

PLAYGROUND OF THE SOUL BY LISA PARKYN
£1,700.00With this bold piece I used a limited colour palette inspired by a gorgeous tarnished copper pipe that my son gave me (see pic) left-over from his chemistry experiment – he used it as an ion donator for plating in case you wondered.
I started with black ink mark-making on the gessoed panel to create movement to respond to. I then enjoyed creating lots of collage papers using gelli plate printing followed by cutting up and piecing together fragments of the collage and newspaper and finally drawing over it. I love this process of adding and subtracting until a balanced composition is found.

HONEYMOON IN THE WILD BY LISA PARKYN
£500.00Another vibrant abstract piece inspired by coast and countryside walks here in the South West of England. Devon is a far cry from the wilds of my African roots. I draw inspiration from the untamed, exquisite landscape surrounding me here – the vastness of Dartmoor, the energetic rivers, wildflowers and the Jurassic coastline with its history and crumbling cliffs.
I create a rich surface texture by building up layers then scraping, sanding and drawing back into these until a balance in composition is found.
