Description
A soft pastel painting of the iconic Glastonbury Tor in Somerset overlooking the Levels and seen in a soft, pink sunset light. Both the Tor itself and the Levels are typical for the county of Somerset and a great tourist attraction. What inspired me to paint this well known site was the challenge to create a harmonious composition of very different elements: the massive hill in the foreground with the man made St. Michaels Tower and the vast extent of flat landscape merging into a light evening sky. Infusing this infinite flatness with life through variations of shades of green, blues and warm yellows as well as through suggested fields, hedges and buildings was a further tricky task. The colours are for the most part on the cool side, but hints of pink and yellow add warmth to the atmospheric view of this well known and loved ancient monument.
