I love this painting – the built up layers of acrylic and ink, the energetic pastel lines creating movement, the classical vase and the abstract table suggestion along the bottom. Inspired by the colour, joy and all-encompassing radiance of sunflowers, this piece will brighten any room. Flowers kindly from local organic flower farm, Wards Farm Flowers.

Inspired by the all-encompassing colour, beauty, character and aroma of flowers. I aimed to capture the essence and emotion experienced – like an exquisite symphony with shape, line, colour and marks the visual notes encapsulated. Built up acrylic and ink layers were worked into with various mark-making tools to create a rich surface history – a process of addition and subtraction until a balanced composition was found.

CORNWALLS TOWANROATH MINE SITS ON THE CORNISH COASTAL PATH IN THIS PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT One of our photographic Cornish Landscape Prints: The Towanroath mine shaft at Wheal Coates on the St Agnes coastline in Cornwall, gives this epic composition with the beautiful rugged Cornish coastline, a deff revisit for the summer when the heather should be…
So often we have to hold it together, grit teeth, keep calm and carry on. This painting reminds me of the contained chaos we have to hold at times and of what really goes on under the calm surface. Created during the pandemic with built up layers on panel – shapes, colours and textures inspired by the exquisite surrounding landscape here in Devon, UK. I love the raw, expressionistic feel of this piece. Part of an ongoing series looking at ways we cope with stress and trauma and how it manifests in our mind and body.

Created as the UK emerged from the pandemic lock-down, I loved working on this colourful piece! It forms part of an ongoing series looking at how we process and make sense of the jumble of information that we soak up during challenging times – the facts and figures from the media and all kinds of opinions from social media and the resulting emotions. It is a challenge to make sense of the madness at times. I tried not to take myself too seriously – here choosing to express some of the quirky beauty that nature and life has to offer.

Created as the UK emerged from the pandemic lock-down, this painting is all about how we rebuild ourselves and what we choose to keep – the beauty of nature, laughter, friendship, love and generosity, and how we take that forward. It forms part of an ongoing series looking at how we process and make sense of the jumble of information that we soak up during challenging times – the facts and figures from the media and all kinds of opinions from social media and the resulting emotions.

Built up vibrant acrylic layers, transfers, collage and pastel then excavated into. I have always had a deep affinity with the natural world and draw inspiration from the textures, colour, patterns and atmosphere experienced.
Exploring the surrounding countryside and nearby Jurassic coast, I collect interesting objects which I keep in my studio for inspiration and mark-making including fossils, dried seed-heads, pebbles, decaying flowers and leaf skeletons.
I see a torso, whilst my hubby sees a tranquil sea view with cliffs. There is a definite influence from the book ‘The Body Keeps the Score: Mind, Brain and Body in the Transformation of Trauma’ by Bessel van der Kolk. We’ve probably all faced challenges in the last year or in our lifetime. I am curious about how the body and mind holds stress and the ways we cope, recoup and build resilience during challenging times. I often have to remind myself to rest and nourish my heart and soul.
My art practise has become more process driven and a sort of personal therapy where fragments of nature and everyday life that have been soaked up are reworked through the creative process. Like pieces of an unconcious puzzle that eminate from deep inside me become resolved in the artwork. Colour, texture and composition the visual words of something intangible.

Exploring the process of adding and subtracting until a balance is found. Using various methods of layering and piecing together fragments through mixed media, transfers and then scraping, sanding and peeling off – metaphorically delving deeper to discover what lies beneath and our hidden strengths.

Lockdown gave me the time to value the joy in solitude – time away from the busy and distracting world. Created as part of ‘Delving Beneath Series’ – a body of work started during March 2020 lockdown, which has helped me make sense of the shifts going on around the world and reflect on what is meaningful in life.

Using various methods of layering and piecing together fragments through mixed media and then scraping, sanding and peeling off – metaphorically delving deeper to discover what lies beneath and our hidden strengths. I have also tapped into my love for the unique textures that occur in nature, on weathered walls, old billboards and rusting metal – the scars of time.
