Yvonne Doney designs and makes sterling silver jewellery by hand in her Exeter studio, using both traditional and innovative silversmith’s techniques, learnt through both training and experimentation. These include forging, piercing (sawing), fusing, reticulation, chasing, stone setting, and fold-forming. She includes many natural, ethically sourced semi-precious stones and beads in her work, and each piece is unique. She has a maker’s mark registered with the Birmingham Assay Office, where all relevant pieces are assayed and hallmarked. Yvonne says, ‘The challenge of creating something beautiful from a piece of flat metal is so addictive, and it is the wonderful malleability of that metal that inspires me.’ She is never happier than when knocking silver about!
