Moths and Beetles BY Alexandra Lavizzari
An unusual still life painting in soft pastels representing old books and some moths and beetles.
The painting comes in a cream coloured mount and red wooden frame and measures 42cm x 32cm.
A soft pastel still life painting of a rather unusual sort: it consists of a row of old books on a bookshelf, of which only one title is legible. It says ‘Moths and Beetles’ and may hint at the real moths and beetles surrounding the books. The combination of books and animals makes the viewer wonder if the moths and beetles were conjured up by the books or, on the contrary, if the moths and beetles are crawling up the books in order to find out what they say about them. In any case, I intended this still life to raise a few questions and point to the relationship between subject and object, the written word and the real word.
