My mother always pointed out an exquisite sunset to me from a young age. Perhaps that is why I am always drawn to a Turneresque sky which still stops me in my tracks – tranquil and uplifting at the same time. In this painting I have explored the marshy water reflections in an abstract way. I hope this work will bring you joy as it did me whilst painting it.

This painting started off with mark making on the canvas and then evolved with layers of acrylic. Living and working here in Devon, I often visit the coast and in this painting, I have tried to capture the energy and emotion experienced whilst looking out to sea in stormy weather or imagining what it would be like to be on a turbulent vessel at sea during a storm.

This painting started with mark making and spontaneously unfolded on the canvas, working in acrylic layers. It was painted as my style was evolving to more abstract. The dramatic sky and distant horizon allows the viewer to project their own interpretation onto the piece – I love the fact that different people see and find a personal meaning in the work.
