Nigel was born in Manchester, grew up in Africa and has taught and painted ever since. Now working from his studio in Devon, he continues to explore his passion for colour and materials. Using either oil, acrylic, collage or mixed media, he believes each medium offers different possibilities of expression. The oils are rich, layered and textured, giving a greater range of interpretation due to the way light hits the surface. The acrylics have a flow and a delicacy, which is quite different. Collages can be surprising and indicate a fragmented, multi view point. Whilst he still goes out on the moor to draw, the work is studio based, improvised and revised. Each piece is unique and inspired by any number of experiences or ideas.
