Pondering captures the much loved frog in a comical pose amongst the weed. Frogs are a favourite visitor to garden ponds, and greatly appreciated by gardeners for their help in keeping slugs and snails under control. Their arrival en masse in the garden is a herald of the coming of Spring as they gather to breed, and they are often heard throughout the year with their distinctive frog’s chorus.
Pondering is a picture that is close to my heart as it evokes wonderful childhood memories of summer’s evenings listening to the frogs, and the sheer joy of discovering frogspawn and the subsequent tadpoles and froglets. Decades later this annual ritual still fills me with delight.
