St.Nectan’s Glen waterfall
£1,955.00St.Nectan’s Glen Waterfall. Cornwall, U.K.
Inspired by a recent visit having not been there for many years. It is an area of outstanding beauty, part of the land that I grew up to love and admire in my home county. In the painting I wanted to convey the wildlife that has been seen there, you may have to look quite closely to find them all. To reach the waterfall, one must walk through ancient woodland, which rises above the North Cornwall coast. It is a magical place of faerie tales and legends, full of bird song and mystery. The area gets it’s name from the belief that Saint Nectan, a 6th-Century holy man, lived in a hermitage above the waterfall. As the legend goes, he would ring a silver bell when storny weather came to warn ships of the perilous rocks at the mouth of the nearby coastline, Rocky Valley.
