“What in your opinion do you need to consider to create a successful portrait? “
My current paintings are stylised fugitive art, predominantly Acrylic on canvas.
The characteristics of the subjects are vital for me to capture the essence that makes an individual captivating. I choose subjects that are unique and beautiful in their own way.I collaborate with photographers who’s work projects this beauty.
“How do you choose the subjects of your portraits such as ‘Circle’?”
I play with warm tones and colours that I see within a subject, regardless of cultural background, I do not replicate the photograph but paint it as I see it.
“Other than portraiture what subjects do you paint?”
I enjoy painting subjects that have a sense of pride of who they are.
Portraits are in my opinion are such a personal subject to paint. I always start by painting the individuals eyes, this helps me to establish a personal connection, even though I will never meet the subject.
