Limited edition giclée print of a barn owl.
When working in soft pastels I love painting animals and birds in their natural environment; for this bird portrait, though, I have chosen to place a lovely barn owl in an old shed with broken windows to create a dark, slightly grungy atmosphere as well as a visual contrast between the fluffy plumage of the owl and the linear geometrical design of the window. Also, the glass and rusty metal offered a nice technical challenge for a pastelist.
The owl is resting on one leg, which is a typical posture and sign of relaxation.
