Battle at Sea by Rosemary Bonney

By: Rosemary Bonney

Abstract painting

I have called this painting ‘Battle at Sea’ because it brought to mind an event in a novel I read which described a battle at the mouth of the River Niger, West Africa during the 15th century.  The aim of the battle was to block a competitor from entering an important trade route for salt and gold.  The title of the book was Scales of Gold by Dorothy Dunnett.
