Simon’s studio is located in Saltash on the River TAMAR that divides Devon and Cornwall. Painting and sketching were regular features pretty early on having been brought up in Devon.  His enthusiasm for painting started at school between Lyme Regis and Seaton where he received a good grounding in artwork; yet in spite of a developing interest in the subject he joined the Army.  Whilst in the Armed Forces he found time to get the brushes out regularly; being a 'soldier and painter' worked well with many subjects to hand. Deployments to trouble spots often provided interesting painting opportunities, but being constantly on the move made oil painting awkward, so sketching and painting in watercolour became the norm. His travels stimulated a growing interest in tone, form and perspective leading to exhibitions at home and abroad.  Having retired time now exists to explore what works and what doesn't as a watercolour artist; he’s often found painting around towns, cities, estuaries and the countryside in the South West. In the past 3 years he has won awards at the Patchings National Artist and Leisure Painter Exhibition in 2015 and 2016 and at the Armed Forces Art Society Exhibition, the Mall Galleries London in 2015 where he was the recipient of the Strathmore Papers Award for watercolour.  More information can be found on Simon's Facebook page Simon Young Art or on his website
