Walking through Cornish woods as a child, I was inspired by the serial views from dark cool paths of glimpsed vistas at other levels and bright sunlit glades, withheld and occluded by trees.

I studied Fine Art at Leeds University exploring my painting practice as well as history of art.  Returning to London, where I was born, I spent 15 years working in Set Design for BBC TV.   The best part of this was designing, propping and visualising spatial layouts and interiors for sets.  (The rest was project management).

Leaving the BBC, I spent about a year in Barcelona, re-igniting an enduring passion for the spatial drama and architecture of old cities.

An Ma in Animation and illustration at Kingston University  developed this further and I was much inspired by Film Concept Art and the work of Gordon Cullen, 60s town planner, theorist and illustrator.

Returning to live in the West Country, I re-made my entire Art practice.  Enraptured by 50s fashion illustration and the animation and children’s book illustration of the 60s, my painting became more gestural and ‘painterly’.

Today, having moved back to near where I grew up, I remember it all, like a haunting…from prowls through urban streets or the forest paths of the West Country, for me, in their labyrinthine and intricate spaces they all have something in common.
