Alison Webber FRPS

I am an amateur photographer living in Dorset.

Passionate about black and white photography, I have created an extensive portfolio of work which illustrates my individual style. I use textures, patterns, reflections and shadows to highlight the interaction between shapes and light while at the same time trying to create well defined compositions and maintain a harmonious contrast between light and dark.

My latest project entitled ‘Shadows’ goes some way to illustrate how I see the world around me. Like many people on the Autistic Spectrum, I was born with a heightened sense of visual perception. For me, this manifests itself in an increased awareness of geometric shapes and patterns which appear to burst out from their environment, rendering the rest of the scene almost insignificant.

It is through photography that I make sense of this idiosyncrasy and use it as a voice to express my own individuality.

As a member of the Royal Photographic Society I am delighted to have been awarded the LRPS and the ARPS distinctions in 2018. Two years later, in 2020 I was awarded my FRPS for a panel of images which illustrate what I describe ‘a version of my autistic reality.

Continuing my connection with The Royal Photographic Society, I am currently working for the RPS in the role of ‘Spotlight Editor.’ Focusing on the RPS’ strategy of ‘Photography for Everyone,’ Spotlight is a new addition to the RPS website which aims to expand the RPS narrative to include a diverse collection of stories from all sectors of society. I am also a member of the recently formed "Equality, Diversity and Inclusion" Committee.

I feel it is important to be involved with my local photographic community. Not only does it provide me with the opportunity to share ideas with like-minded people but also allows me to give something back in exchange for the help and support I have received from other people within the community. I am a member of both the Bridport Camera Club and the Dorset Independent Photographers as well as being the founding member of a monochrome critique group.

I also give both face to face and virtual talks to various organisations including camera clubs, community associations and charities.

I am involved in a number of photographic exhibitions including exhibiting from my studio during Dorset Art Weeks and putting on an annual solo exhibition at the Malt House Gallery in Lyme Regis. For more information about my exhibitions and to follow my photographic journey, please go to my website www.alisonwebberphotography.com

My images are taken using both digital and film photography and are printed in my studio on archive quality fine art paper and other sizes are available.
