Description

Francis Drake set sail from Plymouth in December 1577 to circumnavigate the globe with a fleet of 5 ships. Initially the Golden Hind had been named Pelican but was renamed in honour of Drake´s patron Sir Christopher Hatton, his crest was a golden hind. The Golden Hind was the only ship to complete the voyage and is depicted here alone having survived a severe storm and being blown 300 miles south of Cape Horn in October 1578.

Original oil on linen canvas 28 x 40 inches  (72 x 102 cm) and supplied ready to hang framed in a bespoke hand finished frame. Exterior framed size: 34.5 x 46.5 inches  (88 x 118 cm).
