Stogursey Ford

The inspiration for this picture. A visit to  Stogursey Castle in Somerset .  The picture was painted from sketches made at the ford.  Stogursey Castle was built in the early 12th century, but was badly damaged in the 13th century. The castle has now been conserved by The Landmark Trust.  The thatched cottage built inside the gatehouse that dates from 1600 is being used as holiday accommodation.  Access to the castle is through this ford and up the track that leads to the castle from the very pretty village of Stogursey. Stogursey is situated close to the north coast of Somerset (UK).  The castle is surrounded by a moat and access is over a draw bridge.
