Oils and oilbar media on artist quality specialist Arches paper; unframed. Size 12 x 12 inches (30x30cm approx). Arches oilpaper is specially formulated to take the oil paint on its surface, providing strong clear colour and remaining robust for framing.

This scene shows a typical Somerset moorland rhyne, with groups of trees, tall grasses and quiet reflective water. The particular location used is a rhyne that lies on the road between Westonzoyland and Burrowbridge. The summer day is warm and sultry, a little overcast but bright; the rhyne banks have a mix of sun-dried grasses, reeds and wildflower heads.

A painting combining tube oilpaint with the softness of oilbar, which is also oilpaint but includes a modest percentage of cold wax medium. These allow the artist to spread paint and create a picture without brushes (if desired).

Since the work is on paper, it will require framing behind glass and mountboard, like any other paper-based painting.
