Description
Exmoor is a special place with its wild untamed grasses and heathers and views to distant fields and hedgerows. Annie enjoys exploring the contrast between the tamed and untamed landscapes. On Exmoor there are frequent boggy tracks to follow made by wild ponies and people out walking. It is a place where the weather and light change in a flash with sunlight illuminating the puddles on the paths just after a heavy and unexpected rain shower. This impressionist painting takes its inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. Much of the work is painted loosely with just a few details, such as hedgerows in the distance painted in more detail, inviting the viewer to look closely at the work. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape with deft strokes and mark making.
Peat Paths Wind Their Way is on an unframed box canvas which is 29.5 cm x 21 cm x 3.5 cm deep.
