Description
This little painting was inspired by Annie’s walks near Exmoor. Beyond the wild moors there is farmed land and Somerset hedgerows with occasional trees left to grow to their full height. Annie frequently walks around Exmoor with its wild landscape and tamed areas, deep valleys and fast streams. It is one of her favourite places to collect ideas for paintings. She explains, “The light changes quickly on Exmoor. One minute the sky is dark and brooding, the next, there is a gap in the clouds and the light comings streaming through.” This impressionist painting takes its inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape with deft strokes and mark making.
It is painted on a box canvas which is 29.5 cm x 21 cm x 3.5 cm deep.
