A partial view of the Southbank of London on a late afternoon when fog slowly descends on the city, painted in soft pastels.
The painting shows various boats on the Thames, skyscrapers disappearing in the fog and in the distance parts of Blackfriars Bridge with cranes and other port machinery. I deliberately used cold tones to create the typically moody and misty atmosphere of a foggy London, adding only here and there a little splash of red or yellow to indicate the first evening lights in buildings. The stillness of the fog in the upper part of the picture is contrasted by visible movement in the water due to a cool breeze sweeping through the city.
The painting has a white mount and comes in a wooden white frame which enhances the modern feel of the picture.
