Exmoor Colour by Annie Musgrove

£250.00

Exmoor Colour captures the drama of Exmoor’s landscape and skies. This view across the moor towards Wimbleball Reservoir and the hills beyond explores the boundaries between the wild moorland and the farmed landscape in the distance. Painted mostly using palette knives and rags, Annie is able to create the textures of the wild grasses and brackens.

Description

Exmoor is one of Annie’s favourite places to explore, especially during the winter months when there is barely anyone out there walking. She is inspired by its wild untamed grasses and heathers, views to distant fields and hedgerows and glimpses of Wimbleball reservoir. The contrast between the wild landscape and the tamed, farmed landscape is one of Annie’s favourite themes. She enjoys exploring the boundary between the two. The light can change quickly on Exmoor as the sun manages to break through the clouds and illuminate distant fields. This impressionist painting takes its inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. Much of the work is painted loosely with just a few details, such as hedgerows in the distance painted in more detail, inviting the viewer to look closely at the work. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape with deft strokes and mark making.

Exmoor Colour is on a deep box canvas and is 40 x 40 cm.
