Description
This little painting was inspired by Annie’s walks on Exmoor with her two labradors Woody and Smartie. She frequently walks from Haddon Hill around Wimbleball reservoir. It is one of her favourite places to collect ideas for paintings. She explains, “The light changes quickly on Exmoor. One minute the sky is dark and brooding, the next, there is a gap in the clouds and the light comings streaming through. I love the way the wet paths reflect the light from the sky.”
This impressionist painting takes its inspiration from the works of J.M.W. Turner and more recent work by Joan Eardley. Increasingly Annie is taking risks with her paintings and developing a more dynamic style akin to Jill Eisele and David Tress. Painted primarily using a palette knife and rags, Annie is able to imply and infer the textures of the landscape with deft strokes and mark making.
It is on an unframed box canvas 29.5 cm x 21 cm x 3.5 cm deep.
