The changes that autumn brings, shifting from greens to yellows, oranges, and reds, has always been a favourite of mine. Usually this is a gradual shift, but there was something about this stretch of woodland, just outside of Exeter, that meant this shifting was uniquely divided. A week later I flew in the same area, and the entirety of the forest had shifted to the autumnal palette.
I enjoy expansive vistas, busy images, and suns creeping above the horizon, but sometimes it’s the simple images that strike true.
This aerial shot of a small forest outside of Lyme Regis in Dorset shows the incredibly variety and texture of the forest canopy. You can get lost in this image.
A panoramic print of Sidmouth’s cliffs, and the seafront in the background.
Sidmouth has a timeless quality that is fairly rare, the Victorian architecture of the seafront promenade jockeys for grandness with the expansive sandstone cliffs surrounding it.

A panoramic print of Exmouth harbour and the river Exe estuary, Devon
I was visiting the Starcross area last summer, and got up before sunrise to try and catch a good shot, and was rewarded with this view. The estuary kicked up a good amount of mist, which served to highlight the glorious sunrise
A panoramic print of Kingsbridge and the surrounding bodies of water.
This morning was cool and calm, leading to a little low hanging mist coming up off of the still water, which is the perfect companion to the rising sun.
A panoramic print of Devil’s Point and Royal William Yard.
I popped down to Devil’s Point two mornings in a row, the first was overcast, misty, and generally uninspiring. The second yielded this lovely image. The rising sun turning the sky a vivid purple was well worth the wait.
